Inspiration
This painting is part of a series titled The Winter Solstice. It is inspired by the shortest day of the year on the 21st of December 2021. The Winter Solstice is a reminder to honor our connection to the natural world. In the Uk this is usually celebrated at Stonehenge.
Harman created 7 30x30cm canvas paintings to respond to this theme. He used newspaper to relate this to the human constructed world, beliefs, values, time and memory. On top he overlaid a depiction of a space to enter to signify new beginnings. The Colours were chosen to represent this changing season of the year.
This series “The Winter Solstice”is composed of 7 30x30cm canvas paintings made from newspaper collage, house-hold paints, acrylic paints and medium.
“Working on this series, I was reminded of how surreal the human experience is, what is this reality we are experiencing?”
