About Martin
Hello, my name is Martin Harman. I am a British artist based in the UK.

I create original, one-off, dreamlike abstract ceramic sculpture and paintings.

Why do I create art?
Creating art allows me to take a step back from the normality of society. It provides me opportunities to explore new possibilities, to keep learning about myself, the world and acquire new skills. Making art elevates my potential, it is what it means to be human.

I also experienced family members passing away. This got me thinking about my experience of reality and what happens when we die. It made me realise life is fragile and short and that I should make the most out of this life. It got me asking questions.

Art has opened doors for me to travel to different countries to attend residencies, symposiums, meet new people, and show my art in exhibitions around the world to which I am grateful for.

What inspires me? What is my purpose?
The Historic English Heritage monument Stonehenge and stone circles in the UK inspires the creation of my artwork.
Picture
To this day its purpose and meaning still remains in question. It forces myself to be curious, to learn anew and reflect upon my existence.

It invites me to think about, belief, spirituality, what happens when we die, space, time, what is real, imagination, society, my experience of life, human potential and the desire to ask questions about the world and universe I am living in.

I do not intend to create artworks that look like stone circles in any way. I use this as a foundation to generate ideas to inform the creation of artwork to evoke new meaning to you, the viewer. My art could be seen as an escapism from reality, however there can also be elements recognisable or symbolic to the human experience.

My purpose is to create art that invites you to be immersed by curiosity, human potential and new experiences. I would like my art to become part of you life as life is full of questions.
