Learning how to throw a cup also helped to give me the skills needed to create ceramic sculpture as a lot of my sculpture starts on the potter’s wheel.
Learning how to throw a cup is in some ways similar to throwing a cylinder as you are pulling the clay walls upwards but then slightly outwards to shape it. Throwing a cup is quite a simple process compared to say making a mug as there are less processes involved.
