My Experience
I have been learning and working within arts related activities since school.
At School I had the opportunity to work with clay as they had a ceramics department with all the equipment needed that included kilns, potters wheels and plaster making facilities. At the time I was drawn to using my hands to make things, I was drawn to creativity. I decided to take this forward and study ceramics as a GCSE.
After school I explored the arts further by studying Art & Design at college. Here I experimented with different medias like fine art painting, sculpture and ceramics. After which I then went on to university to study a BA in Three Dimensional Design Ceramics. Here I focused my attention on ceramics within design and artistic pottery. Following this I then went onto an MA to study ceramics. Here I focused on developing concepts to harness clay to create ceramic sculpture that led me to explore the possibilities of the potters wheel further.
Since completing my MA in Ceramics in 2012 at UWIC Cardiff School of Art and Design, UK, I decided to continue to develop my pottery wheel throwing skills. From 2015 to 2022 I was working for a company specialising in making by hand earthenware pottery thrown on the potters wheel.
Day to day tasks would very. I learned how to:
During this time I also had the opportunity to learn from a traditional potter master in Taiwan who had also worked in the pottery industry for a number of years. It was a new way of leaning as her throwing skills were completely different to the ones I was taught at home in the UK. This gave me a fresh perspective.
Since then I have worked as a self-employed artist since 2015 working within the fields of contemporary ceramic sculpture and painting.
To date I have participated in 13 artist residency’s & symposiums and 66 exhibitions in the UK and internationally. My art is in 15 public collections around the world and in private collections internationally and featured in magazines, books and online press. You are welcome to explore my experience further by viewing my CV.

Day to day tasks would very. I learned how to:
- Throw tableware on the potters wheel: Mugs, Bowls, plates, garlic pots, salt igloos, egg cups, spoon rests, jugs, candle holders.
- On a throwing day I would often throw on the potters wheel 80- 100 pieces per day depending on the item. For example I would throw 80 mugs in 8 hours all the same hight, size and weight.
- Trim and finish and slip thrown tableware.
- Day to day tasks also included applying multiple glazes to bisque pottery in combination to achieve unique effects.
- Pack and unload kilns.
