A bit of History?
My ceramic sculptures are usually made using geometric forms like cylinders, cones and spheres that are thrown on the potters wheel and cut up and joined together. Using the potters wheel is a fascinating process as clay can be shaped into many forms. Whilst creating ceramic sculpture I started making my own Tableware. I wanted the design to focus on the geometrics of the form and contrasting colours and I started putting these dimples or bubbles I like to call them on the form. It's an extension of my art and makes a nice addition to the Murch Store!
An update to the Tableware Shop
Hi guys, just to let you know I am in the process of updating the tableware, its going through a few changes. I decided to change the name from Bubbleware to Martin Harman my name as I have had alot of feedback and thinking in terms of linking the work I do to my identity. I know Bubbleware has had its place in history but now its time to keep moving forward.
I’ve been listening, learning, and thinking a lot about how to make my work more accessible — and I’m happy to share that prices are now the same online as they are at my markets!
That means you can shop from home without worrying about paying slightly more — the same handmade, multi-glazed pieces, delivered to your door at the same price you'd find in person.
Whether you visit me at a local market or browse my shop in your PJs, I want you to feel the same connection to the work. Thank you for supporting small-batch, handmade ceramics — it really does mean the world.
About the Tableware?
I wanted to create tableware that is fun and tactile to liven up the day. I started putting these dimples or bubbles I like to call them in some of the pieces which originally gave rise to the name Bubbleware which has now developed into Martin Harman Art.
How is the Tableware Made?
It is handmade from start to finish making it unique and functional with a fusion of artistic expression. It is all thrown on the potter’s wheel. Each ceramic piece is made using Stoneware Clay. A clay known for its strength, durability and longevity.
I use a unique multi-glazing process that gives a tactile finish. Hand-glazed in a vibrant mix of matte and glossy colourful finishes.
Each item is fired twice in the kiln. Once to a Bisque to get rid of the water at 1000c and the next for a glaze firing to 1250c in an electric kiln using part renewable energy.
The firing process always brings an element of surprise, making each item a one-of-a-kind work of art that is also functional. Every single piece is made by hand with care by one person- Martin. No two are the same and that is what makes them unique.
The End Result?
I believe in creating high-quality tableware that offers both beauty and value. The tableware is designed to last for years, bringing a colorful, artistic, and tactile touch to your kitchen, home, or workspace.
It is not only about aesthetics but also the experience. The way each piece fits comfortably in your hand, the contrast between the glossy and matte textures, and the lively colors all work together to create a joyful and comforting moment in your day.
Whether your home is modern or traditional, this tableware adds a charming, personal touch—and also makes a thoughtful gift for someone special.
When you open your package, I want it to be a delightful surprise—something that sparks joy and brings a little artistry into your everyday life.
Care & Use
The tableware is microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe. However, as each piece is handmade, I recommend handwashing to maintain its beauty for years to come.
