Memories of Istanbul Postcard Painting Project
Project Overview
What is it?
This is the postcard paintings I created as part of a series of 12 under the project name "Memories of Istanbul". It's inspired by my travels in Istanbul during an artist residency.
Why did you create it?
Through my postcard paintings I have sought to capture Istanbul's mystique, its spiritual presence, archecture, its monuments, sounds, atmosphere, through the lens of memory. I interpreted the places I traveled though, like moments shifting between reality and a dream. I only worked in black and white acrylic paint to keep this project grounded in memory.
Have you ever looked back at your memories and thought to yourself which parts are real and which parts are not? This project invites you to lean into this.
What materials and techniques were used?
Each painting is hand painted from start to finish using black and white acylic paints. I then added gloss to part of the painting to highlight the contrasting space. Each painting comes set inside a well presented white card frame.
Each postcard was carefully made by hand in Istanbul. Each postcard is signed by me and numbered. No two postcards are the same. There are only 12 in this series making it ideal for collecting.
