Introducing The Limited Edition Christmas Decoration
I am excited to introduce to you my handmade and hand painted Christmas decoration! In total I created a Limited Edition of 12 in this series! Each decoration is individual hand-painted. They can hang on the Christmas Tree or why not add them to you Christmas gift wrapping.
Why did I create it?
With Christmas and the festive season coming up I wanted to create an item to hang on the Christmas tree to bring in that festive joy. I was also partly inspired by the workshops myself and Wen-Hsi have been hosting.
I created a range of shapes from rain dear, dog bone, gingerbread man and the star.
I wanted to paint my own unique style inspired by the geometrics, pattens and colours seen on my original sculptures and paintings. Its like a mini version of my art transformed into this unique Christmas decoration.
They are funky, vivid, unique and have character!
What materials and Techniques were used?
I used Porcelain to create the shapes. What makes porcelain special is its strength, translucency, whitens and delicacy. It has been used throughout history as it is considered prestigious. It originated in China and apparently was brought to Europe by Marco Polo.
On top I then meticulously hand painted underglaze paints onto the surface. It was then fired twice, a Bisque and then applied with a glaze and glaze fired to 1230c.
If you look after it, it will last years, if not a lifetime!
